Vacancy - Manager: Human Resources and Administration

The Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR) is a small, independent, non-governmental organisation, based in Cape Town, South Africa, with a pan-African vision. Over the past 50 years, it has worked to promote constructive, creative, and co-operative approaches to the resolution of conflicts and the reduction of violence in Africa. CCR has produced ground-breaking research on African security and governance issues, conducted extensive capacity-building and training, and contributed to peace processes across Africa.

The Centre invites applications from suitable South African citizens or candidates with permanent residency in South Africa to fill the following position:


Main focus areas:

  • Manage employee relations, staff development and training, as well as personnel administration at CCR; and
  • Manage CCR’s facilities and general administration.

Key responsibilities:

  • To contribute to CCR's vision and profile, both internally and externally, and to provide strategic leadership to the Human Resources and Administration cluster, in particular;
  • To provide and manage effective Human Resources Management systems, including the monitoring of attendance registers, time-keeping, leave records, staff files, work permits, and training records;
  • To administer recruitment and selection processes;
  • To calculate monthly salaries and manage the issuing of new contracts, monthly payroll amendments, and staff leavers;
  • To manage the general administration of CCR;
  • To manage the financial administration of the Human Resources and Administration cluster;
  • To develop, manage, and ensure the availability of training and skills development opportunities for staff;
  • To manage CCR's property and infrastructure, as well as its relations with external service providers (including security);
  • To manage health and safety and other legal workplace requirements; and
  • To manage the distribution of CCR's publications.


  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field or its equivalent;
  • At least five years' experience in a generalist Human Resources field, of which at least two years have been in a management position;
  • Expertise in labour relations, disciplinary processes, and dispute resolution;
  • Experience in developing, interpreting, and applying human resources policies;
  • Knowledgeable in recruitment, selection, and candidate assessment;
  • Experience in the facilitation of performance management processes;
  • Experience in organisational training and development practices; and
  • Facility management experience.


  • Experience in working with Pastel Accounting or VIP Payroll; and
  • Experience of working in a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
