CCR Welcomes New Executive Director Dr Tony Karbo

Cape Town, South Africa – The Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR), Cape Town, South Africa, is pleased to announce the arrival of its new Executive Director, Dr Tony Karbo.

Tony Karbo comes with over twenty years of experience as a scholar-practitioner working in peacebuilding; conflict resolution; governance and development; gender; women's empowerment; capacity building and dialogue facilitation.

Before joining CCR, Tony served as Director of the Karamoja Cluster Project at the UPEACE Africa Programme in Kampala, Uganda, and was the Regional Representative (Eastern and Southern Africa) at the Institute of Multi-Track Diplomacy (IMTD) in Washington, DC in the United States.

He has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Carter Center, among others; and has served as a faculty member in universities in Ethiopia, the US, and Zimbabwe.

Tony Karbo has written extensively on peacebuilding, development, and conflict resolution, and contributed to journals such as African Renaissance, Africa Peace and Conflict Journal, and International Journal of Peace and Development Studies.

About his new role, Tony says: "I look forward to working with CCR staff and board to build upon the Centre’s outstanding achievements over the years, and to strengthen CCR’s brand and reach throughout the continent and beyond."

Tony Karbo holds a M.S. and a Ph.D in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University in Virginia, in the US, and a B.Sc in Agricultural Economics from the Odessa Institute of Agricultural Sciences.

The Centre for Conflict Resolution aims to contribute towards a just and sustainable peace in Africa by promoting constructive, creative and co-operative approaches to the resolution of conflict through training, policy development, research, and capacity-building.
