This edition of the journal Global Responsibility to Protect (GR2P) — a special African issue — was commissioned and overseen by CCR. It reveals African perspectives on the norm, which obliges national governments to protect their populations from mass killing and massive and sustained human rights violations. It features six essays written by: Sudanese scholar-diplomat, Francis Deng, the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide; South African jurist Jeremy Sarkin; Congolese scholar-diplomat Musifiky Mwanasali; Nigerian scholar Adekeye Adebajo, the executive director of CCR; South African scholar Chris Landsberg; and Zimbabwean scholar activist Webster Zambara, a senior project officer at CCR. It also features an introduction written by Jeremy Sarkin and Mark Paterson, a communication consultant at CCR.
